The international recognition that Avibras has achieved has resulted from the success of its products. Among these products is a special development, the ASTROS II (artillery saturation rocket system) that has been proved in combat in two major Gulf wars where its ability in field-artillery and coastal-defence roles was accurately attested in extreme conditions. The ASTROS is a typical example of Avibras' system-house capabilities where all main hardware and software items are developed and produced within the group.

The fibre-optic guided, multi-purpose missile (FOG-MPM) has been developed in response to the technical evolution of the combat vehicle, the cornerstone of modern combat insofar as armour, firepower and mobility are concerned. There was a requirement to develop an anti-tank weapon with a performance that could cope with the challenges that were likely to be presented in future years and Avibras has achieved that with a missile that employs some of latest technology available.

The FOG-MPM has been designed for multi-purpose deployment, especially against combat vehicles, fortifications and helicopters. Its range of up to 10km is far in excess of that of anti-tank missiles deployed at present.

The FOG-MPM has a modern guidance system based on data transmission by fibre optics. This ensures that the missile can be operational at all times, even under severe conditions on the battlefield that could jeopardise the employment of existing missiles such as those guided by laser.

The use of fibre optics as a communication link between missile and gunner and vice-versa, offers a unique employment capability not found in conventional anti-tank weapons. The non-line sight target acquisition, the guidance and full control of the missile during flight to the point of impact and its total capability against electronic counter-measures, make the FOG-MPM a unique system.
